Belated Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps.
Jerry began to attend the Birthday Dinners in 2007 with Steve Cileli and Ed Malloy.
Two Marines who were Providence Police Officers.

Jerry was an immediate hit with other distinguished Marines at the functions.

The passing of Jerry deeply affected the Sherlock Clan.  However his other boys in the Marine Corps Family were heart broken as well.

Ed Malloy and Jerry Sherlock became fast friends.
At the final episode of HBO's The Pacific, The Malloy's hosted the screening and Ellie Malloy provided a somewhat sugar free dessert for Jerry.

In 2014 Ed Malloy was diagnosed with a rare form of Liver Cancer and given only months to live.

Ed and I spoke of Jerry during those first few weeks of the diagnosis.   Ed refused to quit.
Something that no Marine has ever done.

Ed fought and went for advanced treatments and programs.
The Cancer Center at Rhode Hospital where Jerry had received treatments had developed a fund Called Rising Above Cancer.
A Road Race was held in Warwick City Park every year.  Runners could form teams.
The Malloy Strong Team was developed.

Eventually it would become the largest Team at every race.  A kelly Green Shirt with the words Malloy Strong on the front.  NEVER GIVE UP on the back.

Ed's courage,  strength and character  bonded people who would never have connected.
Over $250,000.00 has been raised and the Cancer Center renamed the the program The Malloy Strong Rising above Cancer Fund.
It is used to assist people going through cancer treatments.

Sadly Ed passed away on October 31,2019.  He was promoted to Sergeant at Rhode Island Hospital the morning before he died.
Sgt. Edmond F. Malloy, PPD/USMCR was buried with Military Honors by his brothers from the USMC.
Many of us all spoke after the funeral at the RI Veterans Cemetery.  We all agreed that Ed was met by PFC Jerry Sherlock and would be dining with other famous Marines at the Birthday Dinner at Tun Tavern by St. Peter's Gate.
Ed Malloy is on Jerry's right shoulder.  Steve Cileli on the left.

Semper Fi To Ed Malloy, Jerry Sherlock and Jack Mainor.

Happy Birthday Marines!
